I have been reading a book called the Great stink and I had to answer some questions
here they are.
- For what will the year 1858 be remembered?
The great stink.
- Find three words in the text that mean a bad smell.
Stink Stench Stunk
- Why would Walter Thompson think London might not survive if the problem of the Great Stink was not fixed?
Because of the deadly disease and the stink (miasma or cholera)
4. Why had London Developed a problem with sewage?
Because all the poo and wees were going into the lakes and rivers because they had nowhere else to go.
5. After Bazalgette’s plan was put into action, how did the river become cleaner?
The river became cleaner because of the sewage pipes and how they stopped the poos and wees from going into the rivier.
6. Why was a newspaper article an effective way to communicate with the people of London?
Because newspapers are very popular in London, they did not have TV’s, computers and stuff.
7. What is done in some areas today to assist in reducing the amount of waste material from sewage?
Sewage pippes and sewage plants.
